Osibisa - Sunshine Day

'Osibisa is a British Afro-pop band, founded in London in 1969 by four expatriate African and three Caribbean musicians.

Osibisa were one of the first African bands to become widely popular, leading to claims of founding World Music.

The name Osibisa was described by the band members as meaning "criss cross rhythms that explode with happiness" but it actually comes from "osibisaba" the Fante word for highlife.

Their style influenced many of the emerging African musicians of the time.'

  1. this is what is great about blogging - you never know what you're going to find.
Never heard of them but I like the sound. The pictures remind me of Santana.

  2. Yeah, ... they were pretty big in Europe and southern Africa but I don't think they took off in the USA ...

they were also pretty well known for their album cover artwork ...
