Cape Town, My Eye - Two

I don't like Cities in general but, Cape Town is an exception - mainly because it's so easy to escape the Concrete Jungle and disappear into Nature.

A Bronze Lion in front of the Studio of sculptor Donald Greig.

A section of a giant mural which adorns the wall of a building.

Someone's Hog against a red brick wall.

A steel-hulled sailing ship, Europa, in dry Dock for repairs - I believe it's a training vessel but I don't know it's origin.

All shall be Equal before the Law

I wonder what motivated the artist to paint this message on the last remaining wall of an old demolished building.

The yellowing Spirit of Autumn reflected off a car's windscreen.

Mercury sitting atop a building, holding a Caduceus.

The balcony of the Timbuktu Restaurant on Long Street.

The Drumming Troupe again - I can kick myself now for not being bolder and getting some close-ups of their faces.

  1. I love cities where you can easily feel like you're in nature again so Cape Town sounds and looks like a city I could like. It's interesting to see what your eye found there. Have a great week ahead!

    1. Thanks Penny - Cape Town is probably the only city I could live in - if I had a couple of million bucks of course ... :)

  2. Graham I also hate large towns and cities and I have always felt at home in Cape Town. Maybe you have just come up with the answer, all around there is so much of nature. Just one look up at the mountain is enough and I have always loved the Cape Argus, P & P cycle Tour.

This is a great selection of photos, I think the first one brings back the memories though. Thanks Diane

  7. Hi Graham - I've been catching up on your last three posts, as I've been away. You got me looking up London cabbies, because I didn't know who made them, and you ask about it a couple of posts back. It's confused me more than ever, because I gather that they were initially made by Austin, then British Leyland, then Rover, then Nissan, in conjunction with other companies who made the car bodies. They're so comfortable...
I know what you mean about chickening out on taking close-ups of people's faces, I'm just the same - in my case I'm afraid they'll come at me looking agressive!!
Since I visited Cape Town in 1983 I always thought it was the most beautiful city I had ever seen - I suppose a combination of table mountain, beaches and Dutch colonial architecture, which I like very much. The older I get the more I prefer the countryside though (unless it's - er - got a lot of creepy crawlies that want to eat you....)
    Enjoyed the catch up.

  8. You know I've always admired the whimsical spirit of the people of Namibia as manifested in the roadside art of your country. It's so nice to see it alive and well in South Africa too.
