Halfmens In Bloom - Pachypodium namaquanum

Halfmens In Bloom

I've previously posted a descriptive entry, with pictures, on the Halfmens (Pachypodium namaquanum) here.

I photographed this specimen in bloom in South Africa's Richtersveld National Park when I was there last. It was the first time I'd seen one in bloom.

  1. South Africa certainly has some amazing blooms. I know what you mean about a right royal pain.... I was only struggling off line for a week. What did we do before computers? Snail mail just cannot compete! Diane

  2. I followed the link and can see why they are called half human, if I saw that from a distance at night I would think I was being threatened by a fist waving monster! Weird they always face north but the one in bloom is stunning.

  3. It scared me when I first scrolled down the screen. The flowers are beautiful. He's beautiful. I'm showing him to the boyz.

  4. Thanks friends ... the weather's great at the moment - overcast and ideal for working outside ...

What did we do before computers and the 'net? ... good question ...

... what I do know is that it allows antisocial people like me be more sociable from the safety of our caves ... maybe that's why I miss it so when I'm not connected ...

  5. I'm guessing they don't bloom often. The shots of the bloom were taken by climbing above the plant - I guess.
Life sure comes in variety of packages.
