According to Wiki, Chéri Hérouard (1881 - 1961) was a French illustrator who was most famously known for his forty-five year work for French society magazine, La Vie Parisienne.
I found this set of Hérouard's cover-art for La Vie Parisienne on the Flicker photostream of asoftblackstar - if you're interested in vintage illustration there's a lot more on her page, some of it quite saucy.
.
One of our local eateries has quite a few prints of this artist; always fun to look at however many times you've seen them.
ReplyDeleteI hope the eatery isn't the local Fish 'n Chips shop? ... just kidding ... yeah, they do have a kind of vintage sensuality about them hey ...
ReplyDelete... gee, I shouldn't have said that, now I've got a sudden craving for hot fish 'n chips dowsed in salt 'n vinegar ...
Just looked at the whole page of pictures, some of them really are great and as you say quite saucy. I love the Parisienne touch. Thanks for this one. Diane
ReplyDeleteThanks Diane - yes, I love them too ...
ReplyDeleteJust got caught up on your latest couple of posts and was fascinated by the signs in the desert and in the desert landscape itself. I live close to the Mojave Desert and it's fun to see a very different kind of desert.--inger
ReplyDeleteI assume every cover had a woman on it. All this before digital illustrator programs.
ReplyDeleteI'd love to visit the Mojave Desert Inger - I've seen some great images of cacti from that area - do you visit there often?
ReplyDeleteYeah, it does seem so lisleman, I'm not sure what type of magazine it was but I presume it was targeted at women and passed down to the menfolk to pore over the pictures ...
They did capture an era, you could feel it just by watching.
ReplyDeleteGraham, thank you for your kind words.
Yes indeed Fazlisa - and thank you too ...
ReplyDeleteI like how you are always introducing us to a variety of different artists and art styles. It also makes you realise just how many really creative & talented people there are out there !
ReplyDeleteThanks Lynda, I'm not knowledgeable about art - these are things I've come across whilst surfing the net and which have caught my fancy - I'm glad you enjoy them too ...
