New Year Bash - Evening

Late in the afternoon I slouched back to the park where the New Year Bash was being held.

I was worried that I wouldn't get any pics because I didn't have an external flash.

It was still hot and as the sun set the artists started performing again- later in the evening there was a spectacular fireworks display over the desert.

By 10pm a stiff breeze was blowing chill air off the ocean 70 km away. I was feeling cold, my feet were sore and my brain had been rattled by the giant speakers ...

I cut-out before the end of the show - I think I've just become a little more deaf ... :)

  1. I love these sort of things in small doses, but I agree the ears can only so much. What wonderful photos you have taken. I was going to comment by the dress how warm it must have been but they were obviously moving around a lot:-) Diane

  2. Thanks Diane - I was at the bottom of the stage moving right in front of the speakers and my ears took a bit of a beating ...

  4. I think by now, I prefer to just look at the pictures and enjoy seeing all these beautiful people perform in silence. This may make sense to you when you get to my age.

  5. Some very beautiful Namibians, making what I assume is beautiful music. Too bad it was a little loud for you. I noticed these outdoor events are often so loud that it is sometimes difficult to appreciate the words and music. I do not agree that louder is better! It is that way here too.

  8. Hehe yes Penny some of the ladies were gorgeous - sadly I was too busy taking pics to drool much ... :)

... to my mind those massive speakers were a health hazard ... :)

  10. The venue was a small mining town in southern Namibia Hilary - I'm sure that for many, especially the kids, it was the first time they've experienced a live show ...

  13. He he, Graham. I also meant 'beautiful' men but I guess they would prefer to be called 'handsome'.

  14. Hehe yeah Penny, I must confess that to me the guys were incidental - I'm probably biased ... :)

you're right, they would prefer 'handsome' ...

  15. Superb - the sort of pics I love taking, getting in close. The beautiful women are shown to perfection. Don't know what I'd do about the decibel level - wearing ear muffs may have come across as a bit insulting I suppose!! Did you use flash with every one?

  16. Yes, I relished the opportunity to be a 'respectable paparazzi' and take pics at the show Caroline.

In the evening I used the camera's built-in flash - I was assisted by the stage lights ... I tried to photograph the crowd but they were in darkness and the auto-focus wouldn't work ...
