Good Morning, Cape Town! - on a clear day you can see Table Mountain forever.
For the first time ever I stayed in the City Centre and got a street-eye view of the buildings, which, though impressive to my desert mind, are likely tiny by world standards.
Cleaning Windows - not for the faint-hearted, I'm sure.
An advertisement for Caterpillar mining equipment - I probably should know what make of car this is but I don't ... anyone?
One of the older buildings on Long Street, built in the late 1800's.
A tuft of Grass grows proudly defiant in a crack in the Concrete Jungle.
One of a series of murals on the outer walls of Mama Africa's - a store on Long Street - I didn't go in so can't tell you what they sell.
Friends stroll up a hill at Camps Bay - another old, familiar-looking car in the background.
Looking down a steep, covered sidewalk in the City.
This kid was thrilled when a member of a passing Drummer troupe noticed her admiration and exchanged a few words and a smile with her.

.
Nice glimpse into your country :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Monica :)
ReplyDeleteGreat pics. The yellow car looks like one of the old British Morris cars. The black one almost looks like a modern version of a London taxi.
ReplyDeleteThanks Phillip - yes, the black car does look like taxi hey ...
ReplyDeleteI love the beautiful lacy grillwork on that Victorian style building!
ReplyDeleteYeah, it is pretty hey Fran - I wonder what colours the building was originally ...
ReplyDeletePulling at my heart strings again with that picture of table mountain. I miss my annual visits there to cycle the Argus. I am back home again, but oh how the garden has taken off with only 8 days away!!! So much to do :( Diane
ReplyDeleteI caught my breath at each picture. The Table Mountain is unreal to me. The buildings in its shadow are like its children. And they are impressive up close, and personal to their carers. You caught the mood in the sidewalk picture and the friends picture. And the last one is the most precious, thank you.
ReplyDeleteCape Town is the second most beautiful city in the world, I love the desert more.
The Victorian style building is a treasure. I've worked in building that had window washers coming down on ropes. They only would wash about twice a year but in was entertainment when they came by your window.
ReplyDeleteJust looking at the window cleaners pic makes me nervous - definitely not for the faint hearted:)I love your steep side walk photo as well.
ReplyDeleteHehe Diane - quite a contrast, the Cape Argus to gardening - I do hope you're having good gardening weather ... or then, maybe not ... if it's rainy outside you've more time to spend on your computer ... :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Fazlisa - yes, as much as I love Cape Town, I also love the Desert more ...
ReplyDelete... the pic of the girl and the drummer is almost incidental ... I was focusing on the drummers when he stopped to chat ...
Hehe Bill ... it must be strange seeing the Window washers from the inside out ... I bet when they come past you get the urge to tickle them ... ?
ReplyDeleteThanks Coral ... yeah I like the steep pic as well ... the lady sitting on the side is having a smoke break outside ... I saw quite a few largish groups of people puffing away on the sidewalks ...
ReplyDeleteA stunning set of photos! The yellow pick-up has to be an Austin! Lovely childhood memories come flooding back! Thanks for sharing your trip with us.
ReplyDeleteThanks Maggie - my first thought was Austin too ...
DeleteYour photos are a view into a would I would never see... thank you! The old building looks like some in New Orleans. Wonderful photos!
ReplyDeleteThanks for your visit and comment Callie - yes, I imagined that there would be the same style of building in New Orleans ...
DeleteSome interesting photos, Graham. I like the old building on Long Street. It reminds me of being in Australia on my first trip and seeing these old "frontier" bars in the northern City of Cairns, FNQ. I also like the photo of Table Mountain. I don't know if you saw our Table Mountain from my travels to the north country last summer? In any case, I didn't realize that Table Mountain was so close to the urban areas. I hope you enjoyed your trip to Cape Town. Some day I would like to visit there.
ReplyDeleteThanks Penny - yes, I seem to recall seeing your Table Mountain ,,, it's a beautiful sight (sometimes a little heart-wrenching) when approaching Cape Town by sea or land and seeing Table Mountain in the distance ...
DeleteHi Graham .. great photos - the black ubiquitous taxi - not with Caterpillar ads on the side! That filigree verandah .. just beautiful - the workmanship they put in to buildings back then .. and just lovely evocative scenes ..
ReplyDeleteand Mama Africa looks to be a bar and restaurant - a visit next time perhaps?
Cheers Hilary
Hi and thanks Hilary - yeah, I was thinking it was a boutique or something ... I'll have to check it out next time ... :)
Deleteenjoyed the fantastic photos!
ReplyDeleteThanks Theanne ... :)
