Half Bach

Hello Friends - well, I'm bach from Cape Town but tomorrow I'm heading to my home in the North for a month.

I haven't had time to edit the thousands of pictures I took but here are a quick selection:

A Lego-type man built with empty Coca Cola crates at the Waterfront in the City - the ever stunning Table Mountain in the background.

The view from my seventh-storey hotel room overlooking the Waterfront, the infamous Robben Island in the background to the left of the wheel.

I usually stay with relatives and it felt quite strange sleeping so high up in the sky - kind of reminded me of the Cave I mentioned in my 'Six Stoned Sisters' post.

After I'd had my camera cleaned and repaired I bought a whole-day ticket on the open-topped City Tours Buses and spent about six hours being a Paparazzi Tourist

A view up one city street - many Cape Town roads are very narrow and I was left with a feeling of admiration for the bus drivers who navigate these streets for ten hours a day.

I saw quite a few Dreadlocked guys travelling the streets on Skateboards, zipping in and out of the traffic.

A view of the City from the Cable station on the side of Table Mountain - there were hordes of tourists waiting to go to the top of the mountain so I just wandered around a bit before catching another bus.

Camps Bay beach - the weather was great and there were quite a few people enjoying the sunshine.

I spent quite a bit of time at the Waterfront, resisting the temptation to spend too much money on things I like but don't really need - I did splurge on two long-sleeved Hemp shirts which should last for a couple of years.

Here a group of Drummers perform for the passing crowd.

Another view at the Waterfront.

After three days I'd had enough and was glad to hit the road North again.

Tomorrow I head home and the half-good news is that I've been given a device which will hopefully boost my Netman signal and allow me to blog from home - so, if it works you'll hear from me again soon, if not, I'll see you at the end of May.

Take care of yourselves hey ... :)

  1. That last photo is amazing, all these pictures are pulling very hard at my heart strings!

I have never seen the coco-cola man before, that is new to me. As for Robben Island many years ago we went there for dinner, I could write a whole blog on the experience!!

Hope that you will be able to blog from home, if not 'see you' in a month. Take care and do not over do it. Remember you only have one spinal column!!!! Diane

  2. Would love to know the details of your internet connection - including the "new device" :) We're heading for the hills at the end of July, and I need a good, faster connection which isn't too expensive...

How was your fish and chips?

    1. Hey Dani - I'm not tech savvy so I can't give you any details of this 'booster device' except to say that it's about the size of a large plate and I have to install it high on a pole ... maybe I can tell you more if it works ...

... I was a bit disappointed with my fish meals, I tried some snoek once but it was dry and I didn't enjoy it - I didn't make it to Hout Bay(or Kirstenbosch)either ... maybe next time ...

    2. Ah well, that's why you didn't enjoy your fish. Hout Bay's Snoekies and Fish on the Rocks have the best fish in Cape Town :) I'm going to miss them (it) too...

  6. Cape Town is always amazing. I don't think the Lego man does much for the place, someone should blow it up. Maybe I should contact some ATM bombers, they would be doing something positive for a change.

  7. Hello, Graham. Lisleman and I exchange comments on our blogs occasionally, and he sent me down to look at your house. That was a wonderful old post, and I'll be poking around to see if there are more current pictures, or if your're still showering under the sun and moon. You're a very good photographer, too. Looking forward to more when you get back.

  11. Hi Graham, I enjoyed all your photos of Cape Town. I've never been to South Africa but Cape Town looks like a place I would like to visit if I should get there some day. I hope you enjoy your trip to the North and that your signal will work. Safe journey.

    1. Thanks Penny - yes indeed ... Cape Town is a must if you get to S Africa ... it's a pretty laid-back place ... a really good vibe ... and the scenery ...

  12. What a great change of scenery you give yourself. 7th floor so high up? I guess it might our 8th floor here since we don't start with 0. But still that's not very high up relative to most big cities. Plenty of good breezes up there?

    1. Hehe Bill - yeah, for a guy who sleeps close to the ground the 7th floor is pretty high ... I was aware of the height the whole time I was in the room ... I was glad when there was a breeze because otherwise the gas fumes from the passing traffic was overpowering ... I guess I could have shut the window but I didn't want to switch the aircon on ...
