I must confess, apart from the old condoms and broken bottles. I have always enjoyed finding odd pieces of metal and stuff (junk) leftover from kilroy or bygone days.Anyway it gives you something to blog about :)
garbage trash - big problem everywhere in world. Do they have landfills there? One of the worst I've heard of is the massive floating pile of plastic in the ocean. Did you ever see the movie Wall-e?
So sad to see such a beautiful landscape marred by this ... but, sadly, the case in many parts of Africa. We've recently had a ban on all plastic bags here in Tanzania ... which cause havoc with the wildlife (birds ingesting them etc).... so we will just have to wait & see ....
I vouch for it being a problem the world over...no matter where I travel and Canada is no exception. I often wonder how people were raised when I see the garbage they will leave behind, even when trash cans here are almost always close by. I do love the colours and tones of some of your finds though.
Thanks Joyful - I've just spent two hours this morning in the desert picking up shards of glass from broken beer and wine bottles - we tried placing rubbish drums at the spots where people hang out ... the drums were stolen and the trash left behind ... sometimes I despair for the future of humanity ...

ReplyDeletehaha ... yes, well I must admit that I'm a junk collector myself but ... no, I said I wouldn't rant ... :)

yeah, there are landfills here ... most of the junk I photographed was left behind by a mining company ...
ReplyDelete... the first pic is to show how people deliberately litter ...
Sadly, Namibia does not have anti-littering laws (as far as I know) ... but even laws won't help much ... it's our culture ...
Am I the only one to see some nice colour and tone contrasts in the detail photos of the detritus?
ReplyDeletehehe Dave - perhaps I would have ignored the junk if not for the colours and tones?

ReplyDeleteThat's interesting Lynda ... glad to see Tanzania taking a lead on this issue ... Namibia is way behind ... but it seems to be a worldwide problem ...
